Spring 2011 Is Here!!!

Spring Semester is finally here. After a rough start in Fall 2010 Dixie Serves is back and ready for action! Lets recap what went down during the fall semester of 2010.

We held our annual Special Needs Halloween Carnival and had a huge turn out! We had a senior ball again with the resthomes in the communities and are hoping to do another one here in this semester. We were able to help out our Hispanic Student Association with a fundraiser for funeral expenses for one of our fellow Dixie State peers.

We also were able to have our first bread and soup night. Like always we had a great turn out to Pain the D road during Homecoming week! We had an amazing group turn out for our second Cardboard Campout which was amazing!!!

Some things to look forward to this semester:
January: We will be visiting the Elderly again. That should be a blast like it's always been.
February: We're going to try and go for another Senior Ball
March: Look for the March of Dimes along with Cow Pies for Kenya :)
April: Look for Paint the D Road again during D-Week and our last service project of the semester which is to be announced soon.

Hope to see you out this semester!!!

Pot O' Gold

Join us in the POT O' GOLD toy drive!! Dixie Serves is asking for new or slightly used toys. On St. Patty's day, the service board will be delivering the toys to the Pediatrics ward in the hospital. Help us spread a smile across a child's face. Toys can be dropped off at the Student Government room (2nd floor of the Gardner Center) or the Serve and Learn Center (between Career center and Financial Aid offices).

"Senior" Ball 2010

Dixie Serves held a Senior Prom, on February 18th, with the resthomes located in the St. George area. The night was filled with music from the 20's- to the 50's and early 60's. We had a bingo game going and some pretty awesome cookies (800 cookies!!!) and had some amazing students and elderly people show up.
Here's a little video showing the highlights of the night. Pics will be posted later so look for those as well!

Feed The Need- Students helping Students

What better way to kick off the month of November than with a food drive? Feed the Need is a non-perishable item food drive that was put together by our Community Service Vice President Ryan Mayfield, in hopes that we can spread the word and awareness about poverty throughout our community.

The goal is to raise enough food to fill up our Student Pantry here at Dixie State. We REALLY need your help! Drop zones will be set up throughout campus and around town as well. Some of the drop sites include, Shroomies, Bio Life, The Flower market, Dixie Serve and Learn Center, and all over campus! The can Drive will be going for two weeks (November 2nd- 14th).

Allred will be hosting a benefit concert Friday November 6th at Noon on the amphitheatre near the fountain. Bring cans and listen to an AMAZING concert free of charge!

Please come and support our poverty awareness month here at Dixie State College!
